August 2023 Mixer!

Hello, game dev enthusiasts! Our next mixer will be held on August 26th from 2pm to 5pm in the third floor auditorium at the Ferguson Library at 1 Public Library Plaza, Stamford, CT 06901.

This is an exciting opportunity to meet local devs and show off your work. Feel free to bring anything you need for your digital and/or tabletop games. We’re also looking for presenters to show their work to the entire group!

Spring 2023 events at University of New Haven!

 

Hello, game dev enthusiasts! The University of New Haven is hosting another game jam! The jam will take place online from April 21st to April 23rd. It is open to all current UNH students (including newly accepted students) as well as high school students and their parents or teachers.

The University of New Haven is also holding the CT Tech Talent Accelerator Grant mini-conference. Join us for panels and conversations about games, education, economic and workforce development! The event will take place on May 4th from 1:30pm to 7:30pm at the university’s Alumni Lounge. We will also be having our quarterly mixer at the end of the event.

2023 Global Game Jam!

Hello, game dev enthusiasts! We’re once again hosting the annual Global Game Jam in Connecticut! This is an opportunity to meet other devs and collaborate on creating a game within a certain amount of time. 

At the time of writing, we only have one site participating, which is Quinnipiac University. We’ve set up a new page on our website with a regularly updated list of participating jam sites. Feel free to check it out at https://gamedevct.org/2023-global-game-jam-info/!

Some of our sites will vary between in-person, hybrid, and online. All jam sites listed on our website will have links to their GGJ sites with all the required information.

October mixer at University of New Haven!

Hello, game dev enthusiasts! Our next mixer will be held on October 26th from 6pm to 8pm in the Arts and Sciences lounge (3rd floor of the Maxcy building) at the University of New Haven at 300 Boston Post Rd, West Haven, CT 06516.

Feel free to bring anything you need to demo your digital and/or tabletop games. The university will provide tables and chairs for us to set up on, as well as a projector to connect a laptop to. We’ll have a few speakers present their work as well as the opportunity for everyone to show their games and have others try it out.

As this is a hybrid event, we’ll be using our virtual exhibit space in Gather.town! This is where you can find virtual booths that will contain links and other media for projects being worked on by local game devs. We will also be live streaming the event in the “Talks” room in our Gather.town space. July 2022 mixer!

Hello, game dev enthusiasts! Our next mixer will be held on July 9th from 2pm to 5pm at the Ferguson Library at 1 Public Library Plaza, Stamford, CT 06901.

Masks and other face coverings are required during the event. Hand sanitizer will be provided for use while playtesting. Sanitizing wipes will also be provided to attendees for cleaning controllers and other devices during playtesting. Feel free to bring anything you need to demo your digital and/or tabletop games. The Ferguson Library will provide tables and chairs for us to set up on, as well as a projector to connect a laptop to. The library will also provide a projector for those who want to present.

Global Game Jam 2022!

Hello, game dev enthusiasts! We hope everyone had an amazing New Year! The annual Global Game Jam is coming up this month. We’ll once again be partnering with Quinnipiac University here in Connecticut. We’ll be running in a hybrid model for those who are willing to jam in person as well as those who wish to stay at home.

While the Global Game Jam will run globally from January 20th to 30th this year, we will be sticking to the usual three-day duration (5:00 PM, Friday, the 28th to 5:00 PM, Sunday, the 30th). The theme will be revealed before the jam starts. You can join our site here:

September 2021 update!

Hello, game dev enthusiasts! Our next mixer will be held on September 18th from 2pm to 4pm on our Discord. We’ll be returning to a digital format this month to spread out our in-person events. This is a good opportunity to show any work-in-progress projects you’ve been working on!

After a few presentations, we’ll have a discussion on games we’ve been playing recently that others might not have heard of and why they should try it.

August 2021 Mixer!

Hello, game dev enthusiasts! Our next mixer will be held on August 14th from 1pm to 4pm at the Ferguson Library in the third floor auditorium at 1 Public Library Plaza, Stamford, CT 06901. This will be our first in-person event since the pandemic.

The agenda for the event will be as follows:

  • 1:00pm: Arrival and setup
  • 1:30 – 2:30pm: Presentations
  • 2:30 – 4:00pm: Playtesting/networking!

We’re looking for three to five people to present, and we’d like to ask that you limit your presentation to ten minutes. Please note that if a lot of people sign up for presentations, it’s possible you won’t be able to present this time. If that happens, you’ll be invited to present at the next event. 

Keep in mind that as new details emerge about COVID-19, the number of cases, and the variants, it’s possible that we’ll have to cancel the event in order to protect our community. If we decide we need to cancel the event, we’ll be sure to make the announcement as soon as possible. So keep your eyes out for any updates on our blog as well as emails if you’re on our newsletter.

June 2021 Mixer!

Hello, game dev enthusiasts! Our next mixer will be held on June 16th from 7pm to 9pm on our Discord. This is a good opportunity to show any work-in-progress projects you’ve been working on!

The Game of the Month is Factorio and will be a little different from our previous GotM discussions. Even if you haven’t played Factorio, come by and learn why you should! We’ll have two or three passionate players who will talk about the game and present their views on what we can all learn from it as a game. Everyone is welcome to ask questions about the game and/or give their own thoughts as well.
